Pittsburgh Bicentennial Gateway Festival Magazine-1959

This awesome 108 page magazine from 1959 showcases many of the celebrations Pittsburgh held to recognize the first Bicentennial of the city. The photos and advertisements are required viewing for anyone who enjoys Pitt’burgh’s local history and/or nostalgia. This is “so old” they did not even refer to The Civic Arena as such yet. Instead it was called the Civic Auditorium. Throughout the magazine the pride in this modern building is evident. Too bad that building did not make it to the 2nd bicentennial.
Includes the history of Pittsburgh and information on Kermit Hunter’s The Golden Crucible, which was performed at Bicentennial Gateway Amphitheater. Click on the link to see the whole magazine.
